Some days on the peg are simply days out. Others make you slow down a little and take stock. El Crespo was very much the latter — a driven partridge shoot in Spain that felt ordered, elegant, and quietly confident from start to finish.
What struck me most wasn’t the spectacle, but the way the day was run. The pace, the structure, the attention to detail — from loaders and secretarios to the time taken between drives — all combined to make the shooting feel like a proper occasion. It was a reminder that when things are done well, they don’t need shouting about.
I was out here with Field Shop by Hadleigh’s, spending some great times with Ed himself. Huge thanks to William Powell Sporting for organising the day with such care. From choosing the estate to managing the flow of the shooting, it was clear this was in experienced hands. And to William Powell Gunroom for their continued support and for providing the guns we used throughout the day.
El Crespo reminded me that shooting doesn’t have to be loud or hurried to be memorable. When tradition, organisation, and good people come together, the result speaks for itself.
