I’d never hunted ducks the North American way — and I couldn’t have picked a better place to learn.
This film follows my first proper taste of Canadian waterfowling with Aurora Skies Outfitting, hunting the vast prairie fields of Saskatchewan. Big skies, early mornings, and more birds than I knew what to do with — all a long way from how I’m used to hunting at home in the UK.
Over a few short days the Aurora team went from guides to mates, and the whole trip felt more like joining a group than being led around. From pea stubble mornings to an evening duck hunt on a thousand-acre field, this was a genuine introduction to how waterfowling is done in North America.
I shot the entire trip with a Beretta AX800, which proved to be the perfect tool for fast-moving ducks and geese in big open country. There’ll be a closer look at the gun in a dedicated film, but it handled everything Saskatchewan threw at it.
This film focuses on the core duck and goose hunts, with brief nods to both the snow goose chaos and the sandhill crane hunt — each of which will be covered properly in upcoming videos.
