The 12th of August — the Glorious Twelfth — marks the start of the grouse season in the UK. This year I spent it in the North York Moors on my first ever pointer trial.
A novice day meant young dogs, strict rules, and a lot of patience as we slowly worked across the heather. It wasn’t about big numbers — I only shot two grouse — but about watching the dogs learn, understanding the trial process, and being part of a close community that cares deeply about both the dogs and the moor.
Join me for a day of grouse, dogs, and tradition on one of the most iconic dates in the shooting calendar.
